Loss, damage or bodily injury can seriously affect your business and you should take action immediately if you intend to persue a claim under your policy.
Failure to comply with claims notification conditions and procedures may affect the outcome of any claim including the amount recoverable. It is therefore important that you read the policy to acquaint yourself with these details.
The following advice is offered:
Property Damage
-
Notify insurers immediately or as soon as practicable – either by calling their helpline or claims line (which will be found in the policy document) or by calling Coppergate Insurance Services Ltd.
-
Take necessary and reasonable steps to prevent further loss or damage – in other words, act as though you were not insured.
-
Where requested, complete and submit a claim form. (Some insurers have dispensed with the use of claim forms and rely instead on telephoned advice or the services of Loss Adjusters or other agents).
-
Where requested, obtain estimates for replacement or repair. In many cases, insurance companies will provide access to their own approved repairers or suppliers.
-
Consider the appointment of an independent Loss Assessor if the claim is likely to be complex and/or significant in amount. Please contact us for advice.
Liability
-
Notify insurers immediately or as soon as practicable – either by calling their helpline or claims line (which will be found in the policy document) or by calling Coppergate Insurance Services Ltd.
-
Where requested, complete and submit a claim form.
-
Obtain names and addresses of any independent witnesses where appropriate.
-
Refrain from admitting liability.
-
Pass any correspondence, allegation, solicitor’s letter or summons to insurers immediately – UNANSWERED.
